SHANGHAI: Shopping Or Just Looking In Shanghai?

I honestly have to say that I did not buy much in China. Of course it was more about a cultural holiday rather than a shopping tour. I went to a few markets and stores and the clothes for women I saw were mainly very cute and girlie, but the quality was not satisfactory.

Also the Chinese tend to wear more cheesy and colourful clothes with Mangas, Super Mario or other comic characters on them, rather than the European casual look.

Even the prices are ridiculously high and need to be negotiated. Generally you should try to go down with the price at least 30 %. Good luck!

Some good places to go which help to get an idea what the Chinese fashion industry has to offer are: Parkson Shopping Center on the Huaihai Road
Plaza 66

Nanjing Road is one of the streets you have to see. It reminded me of London's Regent Street. It is really annoying though, walking around with a European face, as every single metre someone comes up to you and wants to sell you bags, clothes or watches. Some of them are polite, some not and even grab you on your hand. My tip: Try to smile and say "chiechie, bu yao".

Fabric Market in Lujiabang Road

Nanjing Lu
Xiantandi is a very commercial, but a pretty street with more western restaurants and bars.

Another great place to go, especially for food and shopping, is Raffle City which is close to People's Square.

I can highly recommend the Korean barbecue restaurant, Pankoo, on the 6th floor.
